This provocative book informs, inspires and opens debates on cultured meat thanks to an astonishing collection of visionary and respected contributors.
Each essay in this collection powerfully presents the latest research and thinking about its potential to solve our current planetary crises. Contributors include Isha Datar of New Harvest, Chase Purdy, author of Billion Dollar Burger, and Hanna Tuomisto, one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of assessing the environmental sustainability of cell-based food production technologies. Also included is a thought-provoking foreword by Ira van Eelen, daughter of Willem van Eelen, godfather of cultured meat, co-founder and CEO of KindEarth.Tech, and co-founder of RESPECTfarms.
Michel Vandenbosch is Belgium’s best-known animal activist. He founded GAIA in 1992. Under his leadership, the organisation has grown to become Belgium’s most influential animal welfare and rights organisation, with over 80,000 members. GAIA has been instrumental in securing groundbreaking legislation and court decisions that have made a difference for many animals in various areas of animal exploitation. GAIA is a long-standing board member of Eurogroup for Animals. Michel’s campaign has focused on animal suffering in slaughterhouses, horse racing, livestock markets, force-feeding for foie gras production, factory farming, animal testing and the fur trade. He is also a founding board member of the World Federation for Animals and a member of the Advisory Council on Animal Welfare to the Minister of Animal Welfare in Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels.
Philip Lymbery is Global CEO of Compassion in World Farming International, the leading environmental organization for farm animal protection. He is Chair of the Eurogroup for Animals, the umbrella body of Europe’s leading animal protection societies, based in Brussels. And in 2021, Philip was a “UN Food Systems Summit Champion” and co-leader of the summit’s Sustainable Livestock Solutions Cluster. He is also a founding board member of the World Federation for Animals, which represents the animal protection movement at the intergovernmental level. Philip is a respected author; his third book, Sixty Harvests Left: How to reach a nature-friendly future, was published in 2022.
